Cheers to Mom with 2 Simple Sangria Recipes! - South OC Moms

Cheers to us, Moms! After spending the last few weeks (months?!) at home with our kids, we hope you get a little time to yourself this weekend. This Mother’s Day is certainly one we’ll never forget. And while we may look back on it as a time of fatigue, worry, and constant dishes and laundry (!), we also know our kids will remember it as a time full of family meals, games, baking and quality time. To help you celebrate, we are sharing two fruit-infused sangria cocktails (easily made into a mocktail for anyone not drinking by skipping the wine) from expert mixologist Kim Haasarud of Liquid Architecture and author of the 101 Cocktail book series, including 101 Sangrias and Pitcher Drinks.

Mom to Maddy, 10 and Holden, 12, she says the key to a good sangria is fresh (good looking, not bruised) fruit, a little sugar (and that can include whatever you have – honey, sweet one, simple syrup and even Stevia) and a decent wine. This year, she’ll be celebrating Mother’s Day by cooking (and we hope, not doing the dishes herself). “We’re also creating a fun Mother’s Day kit for my Mother-in-Law who is quarantined in her retirement community which will include a Sangria! I enjoy getting to do something fun and creative and that others can enjoy,” says Kim.

Bottomless Honey Orange Sangria

This is a fun and easy way to Sip Sangrias, inspired by a friend of mine who had a tangerine tree in his backyard. Just keeping adding more orange ice, prosecco and honey water, as needed.

Tangerine or Orange ice Cubes *

1 oz orange blossom honey water **

Top with Prosecco

* Tangerine / Orange Ice Cubes

In an ice cube tray, fill with fresh OJ or tangerine juice and let freeze overnight.

** Orange Blossom honey water

2 parts honey

1 part HOT water

Dissolve. Keep refrigerated.

Fill a tall glass (or wine glass with orange / tangerine ice cubes.). Add 1 oz honey water. Top with Prosecco and stir well. As you drink it and the ice cubes start to dissolve, it’s a lovely orange flavor that seeps into the drink. It continues to change over time. Just keep adding more ice, more Prosecco and more honey water, as needed.

Tutti Fruiti Sangria

A fun and fruit-forward Sangria made with strawberries, rose, lemonade, pineapple and lime sorbet.

Makes 4-5 servings

1 bottle Rose

6-8 strawberries, cut into quarters, lengthwise

1 lemon, sliced into half moons

1 cup lemonade

1 cup pineapple juice

Half a cup of grenadine

Mint sprig, for garnish (optional)

Lime sorbet (spoonful per serving)

Combine all the ingredients in a pitcher. Let sit for at least an hour. When ready to serve, pour into glasses. Top with one small spoonful of lime sorbet. Garnish with mint sprig.
