For anyone not yet familiar, how do you describe Sheer Health?
Jeff: We’ve built a platform that ensures you never have to deal with your health insurance again. Understanding health insurance, healthcare and medical billing is unnecessarily challenging.
Sheer enables our members to easily navigate all decisions regarding benefits, care and health-related finances with confidence. Our platform helps members to be knowledgeable about their benefits, be confident in getting care when they need it and be protected from erroneous or inflated medical bills.
What was the impetus for Sheer Health?
Jeff: Sheer Health was founded at the end of 2022. The idea had been brewing for a couple of years, but when two friends (myself and Ben Howard) came together with a shared frustration of receiving medical bills that were often incorrect, not being able to easily understand what care would be covered by insurance or having to wait on hold all day to speak to an insurance representative, we thought there had to be a solution to this insanity.
We were introduced to our third co-founder, Dan Horbatt, who had extensive experience in healthcare and was passionate about helping patients navigate all of the challenging bills, rules and issues that he had to deal with personally.
What are the key ways that Sheer Health helps busy moms save time and money?
Ben: Picture this: you never have to call your insurance company, file a claim or try to figure out what you are going to pay on your own!
We help moms before, during and after they visit the doctor, pick up a prescription, or visit the ER/hospital. We provide easy to understand information about what benefits are covered (OT, PT, Speech Therapy), if the health plan has any limits or gotchas as to how certain can may or may not be covered, we help get additional therapy sessions or have care covered at the in-network benefit level (instead of out-of-network) which lowers the cost of care and much more.
We also handle all claims submission, tracking and fix any issues that come up to ensure maximum reimbursement for out-of-network care. We will also help lower or eliminate out of pocket costs for prescriptions.
How much money have people saved since you started your business?
Jeff: We have now saved members over $5M since we started the business. The average savings has been $1,500 per member – this has come back to our members in the form of reimbursements, savings on prescriptions, refunds and savings on incorrectly processed medical bills and more.
