You will start off your adventure by checking into the Flightline Safari office, after you enter the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Note, you also have to have a ticket to enter the park and a reservation to go on the Flightline Zipline Adventure. Once at the office, they will confirm you reservation for the Flightline adventure and request you to get weighted in and complete some liability waiver paper work. Then you will proceed into the staging area where the friendly guides will take you paper work, help you get outfitted into your ziplining safety gear and turn on a safety video for you to watch. Note, you should wear closed toed shoes, you are required to have your long hair pulled back in a hair tie and they will provide a safe box where you can put in your phone, purse, wallet, etc.

Next up you are ready to try out there Fledgling Run to prepare you for your Flightline experience. This is a much shorter, not as high zipline to help everyone know what to expect when you go on the official Flightline zipline. This practice run takes you through some beautiful trees and lasts about 30 seconds. It is the perfect dry run for the ultimate zipline experience.

Once “fledged,” you will be taken by Safari truck to the final launch platform. The safari truck ride is about 10 to 15 minutes and winds you through the park. Almost like you are on your own private behind the scenes tour of the park. You have a guide with you during the journey telling you all about the animals and telling the kids fun facts about the park. It was a very enjoyable lesson about the park and it’s animals.

Your safari truck will drop you off right at the landing platform which is a good 130 feet up in the air. This moment can be a little intimidating and my youngest got a little nervous about the adventure ahead. But once you walk out on the platform and look down at all the amazing animals below, all of those nerves disappear. Below you is the savanna habitats which include rhinos, giraffes and other wild life.

Your Flightline safari guide will call up groups of 4 one at a time. As you all get locked in you will be sitting in your swing high up the Wild Animal Park. The guide will release each person one at a time and you will begin sailing down over the savanna habitat animals. There is no major or scary drop when they release you. You literally gently sail right off the platform. But the best part is the journey is long and you get to enjoy the view for a good minute/minute had a half. My kids went first and I went last, due to my size compared to them, I managed to catch up to them and pass them during the Flightline experience. Once we made it to the landing platform everyone was all smiles and of course they all wanted to do it again!
