We all know that South Orange County has a lot to offer, in terms of luxury restaurants, events and nightlife. But did you know that Dana Point Harbor has the one and only Sunset Wine Tasting cruise in all of Orange County? Picture you and your friends on a 63’ luxury catamaran sipping wine while enjoying unparalleled sunset views from the Dana Point Harbor. Well it just so happens Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching is making that happen every Friday and Sunday evening from 5:30pm to 7pm. This is a perfect way to spend a date night with your honey, with a group of couples, a birthday celebration or just a Mom’s Night Out with your Momtribe.
I chose to spend the 90 minute sunset cruise with my Momtribe, because we all know Moms need a break. You too can purchase your tickets and select specific dates from the Dana Wharf website by clicking here. The booking website will allow you to select up to 20 of your best friends to enjoy the sunset wine cruise for $49 a person. Your ticket will include the 90 min sunset cruise on a luxury catamaran, 4 wine tastings from Frisby Cellars, a charcuterie board and sunsets for days.
Once you have booked your cruise and your date has arrived, you will check into the Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching office in the Dana Point Harbor. Parking is free in the Dana Point Harbor parking lot as well. Once you check in 45 min prior to your departure time, they will provide you with your boarding tickets. Your group will then proceed to the end of the dock to pier 5. There will be another sign at the pier to show you where to wait in line until boarding time. Once they are ready to set sail, the crew will lead you down the dock to the catamaran. Once on board you will find lots of places to sit or stand, both inside and outside. Lots of beautiful locations to take pictures of you and your group. And some lovely live music to enjoy all cruise long.
Once the boat leaves the dock you will most certainly enjoy the gentle ride around the Dana Point Harbor. Frisby Cellars and their very knowledgably host will immediately start pouring their many wines for you to choose your 4 tastings from. They provide a listing of the different available wines for the evening. You can also purchase water, soda, cocktails and additional glasses of wine on the catamaran as well. And be sure to hold onto your tasting card, for there will be a wine raffle at the end of the trip for those individuals that remember to turn in their tasting card at the end of the cruise. My group didn’t win this time, but we will most certainly be back to try again
About 20 minutes into the cruise, they will set out a lovely charcutier board for all to enjoy. From this point forward everyone just sat down and enjoyed their wine and cheese, while admiring the breathtaking 360 views from the boat. You can sit on a large lounge in the back of the boat, stand at some high top tables inside or simply have your titanic moment on the bow of the boat.
