Having a few good board games on rotation is a great idea whether your kids are toddlers or teens. Too cold to spend much time outside? Kids home sick? Need to enforce a screen time break? Board games are a solution to all of these. Plus, they teach important life skills like taking turns, math, reasoning and reading! Of course, they’re just fun to do as a family, too. Below, we’re sharing some of the top picks from families from around The Local Moms Network!

The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel  teaches them colors; it’s also was great for motor skills. Guess Who? is good to play in teams, kids love it and it’s fun to hear them describe the different characteristics. Finally, for toddlers, Roll and Play teaches them to take turns by rolling the dice, and they get excited acting out the pictures on the cards! – Asya Geller of Greenwich Moms

Ticket to Ride is fun, strategic and a great group game for a rainy day! You learn some geography, too. Clue is an old one but a good one. Fun for kids young and old, especially in teams—and takes just the right amount of time! Sleeping Queens is easy to bring on a trip, good for counting and fun for a larger group. – Melissa Post of Westport Moms

Dragonwood is for 2-4 players ages 8+, but my 6.5 year old did great with it! It has a little math, a bit of chance, a lot of strategy, and some serious fun. Catan Junior is easy enough for the kids to understand and involves enough strategy to keep it interesting for the adults. May the best pirate win! – Kristin Hoang of Newport Mesa Moms!

Wesleigh usually picks out what we play, which could be something class that I grew up playing, such as Twister or Candyland, or some newer favorites, the Cupcake Game or the Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel. – Lindsey Harrison of New Canaan & Darien Moms

Our latest favorite is Hatchimals: The Eggventure Game. We love this game because not only does our 6-year-old love it, but our 3-year-old actually can play it too. It combines learning your numbers by having to roll a dice and move spaces, plus incorporates matching! The girls also love the little characters that come with it that they move around the board. – Megan Hughey of Frisco Area Moms

We love Hungry Hungry Hippo & Trouble in our house. They’re both games my husband and I remember playing from childhood and we’re having fun sharing it with Isabelle (5) and Abby (2 1/2). – Meghan Salonia of Newtown Moms

We love Mouse Trap! It’s so much fun trying to catch the mouse and it helps my kids practice their counting. – Jessica Jackson of Bergen Moms Network
